A major designer and manufacturer of military helicopters needed a torque measurement solution for the engine shaft of a helicopter engine. One of the key issues that needed to be addressed was the need to accurately measure torque while operating in extremely harsh environments. MDI worked with a major turbine technology designer for an sensing application to be used to verify jet engine performance after assembly or maintenance. The sensor was capable of measuring up to 10,000 Ft-Lb torque and can operate at up to 30,000 rpm.

Winch System
A winch equipment manufacturer required torque measurement of the pull head in a winch system. This was a floating shaft application where the shaft was supported by a cluster of gears on one end and by bearings on the other. Therefore, the shaft had a higher degree of freedom to move. In addition, the sensor operation was expected to withstand extreme temperature ranges from -40°F to 150°F.
